Master Cleanse

So, as I stated in my last post, I lost my job a few weeks ago.

Since I am no longer required to eat/taste food as part of my daily regimen as a cook/chef, I've decided to do the Master Cleanse.

The basic idea behind the cleanse (which you can read about by clicking the link), is that for some amount of time (usually either 7 or 10 days, up to 30 or more) you don't consume any solid foods and subsist on a concoction made of water, freshly squeezed lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. These ingredients are supposed to give you enough vitamins, minerals and calories to last for quite a while without eating. Additionally, you are to take a laxative tea at night to "loosen" waste in your intestine and then in the morning you drink a "salt water flush" which is basically just very salty water that is meant to flush everything out. There are several different purported health benefits.

I wanted to try it a few months ago, but couldn't because I literally HAD to eat as part of my job. I don't have any expectations, but I'm going to see how it affects me - things like weight loss, energy levels, "detox", etc.

I've never fasted before, so I'm going to try an ease into it instead of just stopping all solids altogether. I'm not trying to "go on a diet" or lose weight, per se. I'm really just trying something for the hell of it because I can. I haven't found a job, and being home a lot, I've read a lot. I'm just doing it as a form of culinary research. Kind of like that dude from Super Size Me, but ya know... opposite.

My ultimate goal is 10 days (not including a day of "ease-in" and two days of "ease-out", so 13 days altogether). There's a chance I may no be able to go the entire time (I've never done this, so I really don't know what to expect), but I'm going to report everything I go through, so be prepared that there will be some amount of graphic dialogue.
